Advancing PID Research

At the Research Alliance for Primary Immunodeficiency Discoveries, RAPID, we are committed to pioneering research in gene therapy and other novel approaches for Primary Immunodeficiency Disorders, ensuring innovative treatments and education for affected children and their families.

Two individuals are wearing blue protective suits, masks, and goggles in a sterile laboratory environment. One is holding a test tube with an orange cap, while the other holds a digital tablet displaying information. A tray with other test tubes is visible, indicating they are involved in some form of scientific or medical research.

Our Mission and Vision
Empowering Through Research

We focus on funding genetic testing and mitochondrial health, supporting awareness and education to improve lives affected by primary immunodeficiency and other rare genetic diseases.

Primary Immunodeficiency Disorder (PID)

PID is a group of more than 400 genetic disorders that affect the immune system, making individuals more susceptible to infections and certain diseases. These conditions result from defects in the development or function of the immune system, often inherited, though some may occur sporadically.

What is PID?
Early signs of PID

Early signs of PID include recurrent infections, persistent fungal infections like oral thrush, growth issues in children, excessive cavities and dental issues, and autoimmune symptoms. A family history of immunodeficiency is also a significant indicator. These signs often appear in childhood but can be noticed later in life, warranting a healthcare consultation if multiple signs are present.

The standard treatment for Primary Immunodeficiency includes immunoglobulin replacement therapy (IVIG) and, in severe cases, Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation (HSCT) or gene therapy. While these manage symptoms, exploring alternatives and cures is vital to address underlying causes, reduce lifelong treatment burdens, and improve quality of life for patients.

Bringing Awareness to Mitochondrial Health and Immune Strength

Mitochondrial health is crucial for immune function. Reducing non-native electromagnetic fields (EMFs) and blue light, while maximizing sunlight exposure, supports mitochondrial function, boosts vitamin D levels, and enhances immunity.

A person in protective attire, including a bright green suit, gloves, a face mask, and a hair cap, is working in a laboratory setting. They are holding a syringe and appear to be performing some tests or experiments. Numerous test tubes, some with red caps and filled with liquid, are organized on a table. The room has scientific equipment, including a centrifuge, and blue curtains allow natural light to filter through the window.
